Working With Wynncrest

Clear expectations before the work begins.

Every book is different, but the working relationship should not be mysterious. Wynncrest provides clients with a written scope, clear fees, defined responsibilities, and an agreed process before substantive project work begins.
Indicative Investment

A flexible model, with clear expectations.

No two books require exactly the same work. Wynncrest scopes each engagement around the manuscript, the author, the team required, and the role the book is meant to play. The figures below are representative examples in U.S. dollars—not fixed packages or minimum fees—and are intended to help prospective clients understand the likely level of investment before starting a conversation.
01

Founder-led

For authors seeking personal publishing oversight from Liz Heflin, with a customized process for editorial preparation, design, production, and publication. Direct ghostwriting or long-term coaching with Liz is offered through Heflin Media Group.

02

Wynncrest specialist team

For publishing engagements, Wynncrest assembles suitable editorial, design, and production specialists, with senior oversight and quality assurance. Ghostwriting specialists are engaged through Heflin Media Group.

03

Modular support

Authors do not have to purchase an end-to-end engagement. Editorial preparation, design, production, publishing, distribution, and launch support can be scoped individually or combined as the project requires.

Typical Ranges

What different kinds of work can cost.

These examples are designed to provide useful context, not to force every project into a package. Word count, manuscript condition, research, interviews, schedule, author involvement, specialist requirements, and publishing scope can all change the final fee.
01

Book strategy & coaching — Heflin Media Group

Founder-led long-term engagement: from approximately $40,000. These manuscript-creation and advisory engagements are provided by Heflin Media Group, not Wynncrest. A typical high-touch engagement may run roughly 10 months; shorter work can be scoped to the author’s needs.

02

Ghostwriting & manuscript development — Heflin Media Group

HMG specialist team: commonly about $30,000–$40,000. Founder-led engagements with Liz: commonly $100,000–$150,000. These writing engagements are provided by Heflin Media Group. Complex, highly collaborative founder-led work can reach approximately $200,000. Pricing varies with length, research, interviews, source material, and schedule.

03

Editing & manuscript production

Specialist-team manuscript editing: often begins around $5,000–$6,000 for a full manuscript. Lower-complexity editing may begin around the equivalent of $0.03 per word, depending on the manuscript. Founder-led developmental editing with Liz is available through Heflin Media Group and generally begins around $18,000. Word count, manuscript condition, type of editing, number of passes, and schedule determine the final quote.

04

Complete publishing engagement

A full professional publishing engagement typically falls around $20,000–$25,000 for a manuscript of up to approximately 75,000 words, assuming the agreed scope is primarily editorial finishing, design, production, publishing, distribution setup, audiobook production, and launch support rather than extensive rewriting or ghostwriting. Authors who need only selected pieces of this process can engage Wynncrest for those services individually.

Example Full Publishing Scope

What a $20,000–$25,000 engagement may include.

The exact deliverables are always defined in the written proposal. A representative full-publishing engagement may include the following when appropriate to the project.
01

Editorial finishing

Professional final proofreading for a manuscript of up to approximately 75,000 words, assuming major developmental or rewriting work is not still required.

02

Cover & interior

Three to four cover concepts with revisions; a professional typography system and hierarchy; full interior layout aligned with the cover; PDF review and correction; and final publish-ready files.

03

Charts & formats

Formatting and placement of up to approximately 15 simple tables or charts, print-ready files, and professional EPUB conversion.

04

Publishing infrastructure

ISBN and metadata setup, keyword and category research, physical proof review, and upload/setup for Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and other relevant publishing platforms agreed for the project.

05

Launch support

A basic set of promotional images plus light strategic marketing guidance so the book description, metadata, positioning, launch messaging, and timing remain aligned.

06

Audiobook

End-to-end audiobook production and publishing setup through appropriate audiobook channels, such as ACX and, where appropriate, INaudio, depending on the distribution and exclusivity strategy chosen for the project.

07

Continuing support

Post-publication book-promotion and publishing support as specifically defined in the project proposal. The scope and duration of ongoing support are agreed in writing so there is no assumption of unlimited services.

A Note About Budget

Do not assume the largest number is the only way to work with us.

Wynncrest is deliberately flexible: authors may need a complete publishing engagement or only selected editorial, design, production, or distribution services. For strategy, ghostwriting, and manuscript development, our parent company Heflin Media Group provides the relevant specialists. If the examples above do not fit your budget or your needs, tell us what you are trying to accomplish. We would rather scope the right level of support than sell work a book does not need.
01

What affects the fee

Pricing may vary based on manuscript length and condition, author availability, number and type of editorial passes, design complexity, production formats, audiobook requirements, publishing services, launch needs, schedule, and the amount of project management required.

02

Your quote comes before your commitment

Before substantive work begins, Wynncrest provides a written proposal identifying the agreed services, deliverables, total fee or unambiguous fee structure, payment schedule, expected project stages, exclusions, author responsibilities, and any known third-party or pass-through costs.

03

Scope can be built to fit the project

If you already have a strong manuscript, editor, designer, narrator, or other part of the team in place, we do not need to sell it to you again. We can quote only the services Wynncrest is actually being asked to provide.

Terms & Scope

The agreement should match the project.

Before substantive work begins, clients receive written terms appropriate to the engagement. These are designed to make responsibilities, deliverables, approvals, timing, fees, and limitations clear to both sides.
01

Scope & deliverables

The agreement identifies the services Wynncrest will provide, the specific deliverables expected from each stage, and any material exclusions from the quoted scope.

02

Fees, payments & cancellation

The proposal or agreement sets out the project fee, payment schedule, and any applicable deposit, cancellation, pause, refund, or termination terms before the client commits.

03

Author responsibilities & revisions

Where relevant, the agreement explains the author’s responsibilities for source material, factual review, permissions, approvals, feedback, and timely decisions, as well as any included revision rounds or review stages.

04

Specialists & third-party services

Wynncrest may assemble experienced writers, editors, designers, narrators, production specialists, or other professionals around a project. The agreed delivery model, significant outside costs, and relevant third-party platforms are identified as part of the scope.

05

Changes to scope

If a project changes materially after work begins, Wynncrest discusses the effect on schedule, deliverables, and fees before additional out-of-scope work is undertaken.

06

Rights, results & the project agreement

Rights, licenses, confidentiality, credits, files, and ownership arrangements are addressed in the applicable project agreement. Publishing, distribution, marketing, and launch support do not constitute a guarantee of sales, reviews, rankings, media coverage, or other commercial results. If a signed project agreement differs from this general website summary, the signed agreement controls.

Client Care & Complaints

Problems should have a clear path to resolution.

Wynncrest values candid feedback and aims to resolve concerns fairly, professionally, and as early as possible.
01

Raise the concern

Clients may raise a concern at any point with their Wynncrest project contact. For a formal complaint, email liz@lizheflin.com with the subject line “Formal Wynncrest Complaint” and explain the issue and desired outcome.

02

Review

Wynncrest reviews the relevant agreement, communications, deliverables, and project history and may ask for additional information where needed.

03

Discuss

We discuss the concern with the client and identify the practical options available under the project agreement and circumstances.

04

Resolve

Depending on the issue, a resolution may include correction or rework, clarification of scope or responsibilities, an adjusted timeline, a credit or refund where appropriate, or another mutually agreed remedy consistent with the contract.

05

Confirm

For formal complaints, Wynncrest confirms the proposed resolution or final position in writing so both parties have a clear record of the outcome.

Responsible AI Use

Human accountability remains part of the work.

AI-enabled tools are changing publishing quickly. Wynncrest’s policy is to be transparent about meaningful AI use and to keep professional responsibility with the people delivering the work.
01

Disclosure

If generative AI or another AI system will form a meaningful part of a client-facing creative or publishing deliverable, that use is disclosed to the client in advance rather than presented as solely human-made work.

02

Creative work

Wynncrest does not treat undisclosed generative AI output as a substitute for professional ghostwriting, editing, illustration, design, narration, translation, or other specialist work promised to a client.

03

Administrative tools

AI-enabled tools may be used for internal or administrative support where appropriate, but Wynncrest remains responsible for the accuracy, quality, confidentiality, and suitability of the work it delivers.

04

Client choice

Where meaningful AI use is proposed, clients should be able to understand that use and discuss alternatives before the relevant work is performed.
